　タイで、ワシントン条約で取引が禁止されているセンザンコウという希少な動物が大量に保護された。



　タイの税関当局は３０日、タイ南部でトラックの中から、生きたセンザンコウ１３６匹と、センザンコウのウロコ４５０キロを発見した。



　センザンコウは東南アジアなどに生息している哺乳類で、一部は、ワシントン条約でその取引が禁止されている。タイ当局によるとウロコは中国などで漢方薬の原料として用いられ、今も闇市場で取引されているという。



　今回、押収されたセンザンコウは、マレーシアから密輸されたもので、日本円で７００万円以上に相当するという。タイ当局は大がかりな密輸組織が関与している可能性もあるとみて捜査している。
