加工食品に使われる原材料の原産国については、これまでは一部の品目しか表示が義務づけられていませんでしたが、１日からすべての加工食品に表示が義務づけられます。しかし、例外も認められるなど、事業者と消費者の双方から戸惑いの声が聞かれます。

これまで、加工食品のうち原材料の原産国の表示が義務づけられていたのは、「うなぎのかば焼き」や「漬け物」など２２の食品群と４つの品目に限られていました。



これに対して消費者庁は、消費者の選択に役立ててもらおうと、１日から原則として国内で製造・加工したすべての加工食品に、使っている量が最も多い原材料の原産国の表示を義務づけました。



その一方で、事業者の負担に配慮して、使う可能性がある原産国を複数表示できるほか、原産国が３つ以上ある場合は国名を省略して「輸入」と表示できるなど例外も認めていて、場合によっては「輸入または国産」という表示も認められます。



表示の切り替えは、５年後の平成３３年度末までに行うことになっていますが、事業者だけでなく消費者の側からも「わかりにくい」といった戸惑いの声が上がっています。



国の消費者委員会の部会長として、制度の検討にあたった日本獣医生命科学大学の阿久澤良造学長は「事業者の負担を考慮して例外表示を認めたことで複雑になってしまった部分もあると思う。国などが消費者や事業者への周知をしっかり行っていく必要がある」と話しています。
